How to calculate square footage (formula)

For a rectangle: Area = Length × Width. With feet and inches, convert each side to decimal feet (feet + inches/12) or to inches, then divide square inches by 144 for square feet.

Area (sq ft) = L(ft) × W(ft) · Example: 12.5 × 10.25 = 128.125 sq ft

Worked example: room square footage
